Becky Hammon: Everything is impossible until it's not

When Becky Hammon started playing basketball as a kid, the WNBA didn’t even exist. Her role models were NBA athletes and she played alongside boys. 

She went on to have a remarkable career in the WNBA and today she’s the NBA’s first ever female coach. This is what breaking down barriers and challenging the status quo looks like, but for Becky, she’s just focused on being the best coach she can be. 

“I can’t carry the load of all feminism on my shoulders. I just have to be me. I have to do the best job that I possibly can and let the chips fall where they may. If my mindset is to set out and prove everybody wrong, I think just from the foundational standpoint of that view, I’d miss the point. I’m here to do the best job that I possibly can as a basketball coach – not just as a female basketball coach, as a basketball coach.” – Becky Hammon

I love Becky’s outlook on life. If we have something we want to do, even if it seems impossible, we can create our own path and try and make it happen.

“Everything is impossible until it’s not. Yeah, [having a female NBA coach] seemed impossible five or 10 years ago until somebody tried it and lo and behold, it’s not impossible. It’s been one heck of a ride. I can tell you that.” – Becky Hammon
